We’ve been listening to a lot of crazy, glitchy hip-hop while we’ve been grinding out new t-shirt, sticker, and print designs here at Camp FAA. Minnesota’s Mux Mool is a heavy hitter and this video (featuring some edits of Bruce Lee flicks) is mind blowing.
Be sure and pop into the Store and pick our latest run of limited edition stickers and shirts. OR buy a tee and get the stickers for FREE- it’s the deal of 2012. Check back soon for more news and thanks for stopping by!
New on RedBubble- FAA logo variants available as American Apparel t-shirts, girl’s fit shirts, long sleeve t-shirts, stickers, and hoodies. Click the image to be taken to the Redbubble store.
The latest design in our t-shirt line. We’re going for a mix of EC Horror comics, hardcore gore, and 80′s neon skateboard graphics. The colors on this design should pop hard on a bright colored shirt or simple black, white, and gray. Don’t forget the stickers and hoodies. FallingApartArt on RedBubble
I also went in and edited the portfolio to include kid’s onesies and t-shirts for the less intense designs. Just in time for school!
The latest design in our Redbubble store, we took one of my older designs and John worked his digital magic on it. A great design on our girl’s fitted, a hoodie or a sticker: Lady Profile design on Redbubble
Check back tomorrow for details on our first big contest. Thanks for looking!
Our latest design for Redbubble is a re-work of a design I painted about a year ago. I can really see the progress I’ve made with line confidence, transitions, and color choices. I think overall, it reads better as a design now. The next step will be John doin’ his thang with it. Look for this design as t-shirt /hoodie /sticker design later today. Thanks for the support!
A vintage flash repaint I completed. The original design had “Mother” across the cross (tombstone?). As weird as it may sound, I had an issue with painting that since my mother is alive. So instead, I decided to go with Latin term “salve”, which means both welcome and healing. I painted the angel’s hand in the sign of benediction or blessing. What attracted me to this design was it’s simplicity and spirituality, similar to the traditional “Rock of Ages” design. Lately, I’ve been drawn more towards doing these designs, partly influenced by my exposure to artists like Robert Ryan and AP Shrewsbury and largely by my upbringing in the Catholic Church.
This is also the first liquid acrylic on paper painting I’ve done where everything was finished with a traditional brush. I usually do the outlines with a brush pen, but I’ve decided to move closer to the way illustrations were painted in the past. I feel like the brush outlines give the over-all painting more soul.
A new 5×7 painting I completed. I really like the expression and coyness in this one. It was also fun to incorporate the dragon into mix to give the piece a level of implied mystery.
This painting, like a lot of my paintings, sprang from vintage reference material (in this case, a postcard). The debate about originality in art and tattooing can become circular, but the folks over at the Last Sparrow Tattoo forum have been giving it some serious discussion and perspective from artists and collectors alike. Personally, if I complete a vintage flash re-paint, it’ll be different enough from the original that I would call it my own, but I wouldn’t sell it (possibly trade though). When I do an original painting and I use a vintage reference, I consider the work “all me” in the sense that you wouldn’t recognize the source unless I put the two next to each other. The material I reference is usually pre-1910 and obscure, so copyright is usually not an issue. But work drawn and painted from flash is just practice for me. Thanks for looking!
A new 5×7 painting I did from vintage flash reference-clean, simple, and bold. I really like the profile on this- sexy without being trashy. Thanks for looking1
This is my latest 8×10. I was going for a vintage patriotic poster look, similar to an image you would see during the American centennial in 1876. I’m really pleased with the illustrative look on this as well.
Check back this week for a new site layout and features, including links to a new Zazzle store for t-shirts, stickers, and lot’s more.
Latest sheet in my flash series. I’m thinking of selling these as 4 sheet sets (along with the sailor, ladies, and eagles sheets). John and I are getting back to the design side and we’re planning on getting some designs out in our Zazzle shop (finally). I’ll be posting some previews soon. Thanks for looking!
